Mike Ault, Texas Memory Systems

Presentation

Mike Ault is an industry recognized expert in the areas of Oracle database installation, tuning, and maintenance. Mike has worked with Oracle since 1990 and has been certified on major versions of Oracle since Oracle 6. Mike has written more than twenty books on Oracle and is a popular speaker at local, regional, national, and international Oracle conferences. Mike is currently the Oracle Guru for Texas Memory Systems, a provider of solid state SAN systems.

Sridhar Avantsa, Rolta TUSC Presentation

Sridhar Avantsa joined TUSC in 2006 as one of their senior consultants focused more on the database platform/grid space. His focus has largely been as a solution architect, assisting clients to define requirements and design solutions to meet their goals. This would include infrastructure requirements such as DR, backup and recovery, infrastructure scaling, and infrastructure management. As the solution architect, Sridhar also works closely with application designers and architects, focusing primarily on defining interface methodologies and guidelines between the applications and their databases. Prior to joining TUSC, Sridhar worked with the database group at Amazon.com, helping build the applications that run the Amazon.com Web site and internal systems.

Rich Baca, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Veterinary Services Presentation

Rich Baca is currently the director of technology at the United States Department of Agriculture, Veterinary Services (VS). VS is a premier animal health organization responsible for safeguarding our nation’s national herd and poultry by rapid detection, control, and eradication of emerging and threatening diseases. In his current role, he is responsible for building and managing the enterprise system and application architectures. During his tenure with VS he has been responsible for the delivery of animal health systems for animal health surveillance, emergency management, regulatory animal movement, laboratory diagnostics, and national animal identification. Currently he is establishing the organization’s strategy and direction for service-oriented architecture. Prior to re-employment with the government, Rich worked as an Oracle consultant in the local Denver area.

John Beresniewicz, Oracle Corporation

John Beresniewicz has been doing Oracle performance for a long time, early on as DBA 1.0 in the trenches of versions 5-7 and later at Savant Corporation and Precise Software working on performance diagnostic tools for DBAs. John has been at Oracle since 2002, working mostly on Diagnostic and Tuning pack exposure in Enterprise Manager. Edward Bowers, ISS

Presentation
Edward is a long-time military DBA building systems for all of the military services and alphabet soup agencies. He started as a Russian linguist, transitioned into Intelligence, and later was the system manager/DBA for the Nuclear Planning and Execution System in Cheyenne Mountain for five years. He spent a year in Korea managing imagery systems, and later spent five years working the Global Positioning System (GPS) when they brought it through its Initial Operational Capability (IOC) phase. He was a permanent member of the Tiger Team with regular on-call duty officer responsibilities. He left the Air Force after fourteen and a half years and spent nine years building the Theater Battle Management Core System (TBMCS). It is the system of record for planning and conducting the theater air wars. He is the only DBA in his company and supports all sorts of database (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgeSQL, etc.) for nearly one hundred contracts around the world. Edward has completed three and a half years of chemical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He never completed first term senior year, since he thought he wanted to be a salesman. He is a better engineer than a salesman. He completed a BS in Computer Science from Chapman University.

Jordan Braunstein, Rolta TUSC

Jordan Braunstein serves as the business integration and architecture partner at Rolta-TUSC and is responsible for managing the TUSC SOA Center of Excellence. This includes delivering tangible results and support to customers through consulting, education, and overall partnership support, to ensure our clients achieve positive returns throughout their SOA journey. Prior to joining Rolta-TUSC, Braunstein started and managed BearingPoint’s Public Services SOA practice, focusing on deriving value and hard-line results for defense and civilian government agencies, state and local governments, and higher education institutions. Prior to BearingPoint, Braunstein managed a consulting practice at webMethods/Active Software where he was responsible for starting the professional services SOA practice helping lead SOA engagements such as: SOA architecture, enterprise information sharing amongst systems, processes, and technologies; SOA governance; B2B Hubs and exchanges, trading partner on-boarding and management; Canonical model development; internal system synchronization, and interoperability of commercial enterprise systems that include: SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Mainframe, legacy systems, and custom applications. Braunstein holds a Master of Science in decision and information sciences, and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Florida.

Bradley Brown, Rolta TUSC

Brad Brown is a founder and currently chief technology officer for TUSC. His vast experience and expertise have earned him roles as acting chief information officer of several companies and more than twenty years at TUSC. Brad has also served on numerous company boards. Brad is the author of several best selling Oracle Press books. Oracle awarded Brad the honorary title of Oracle ACE Director for Fusion Middleware. Brad taught “New Venture Creation” at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business for two years. In 2009, his alma mater, Illinois State University, put Brad into their first Hall of Fame for the College of Applied Science and Technology.

Doug Gault has been working with Oracle since 1988 starting with version 5.1B, SQL*Forms 2.0, and RPT/RPF. Since then he has focused his career on Oracle's development technologies, spending the last decade on Web-based technologies, and the last five years specifically on HTML DB/APEX. Prior to joining Sumner Technologies as vice president, Doug was the product development director for Hotsos Enterprises, during which time he was the lead architect/developer and product manager for two commercial products written exclusively in APEX. His twenty-one years of Oracle experience has taken him all over the world and involved him in some truly ground-breaking projects. Robert Holland, Roxytone LLC

Robert graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado in 1994 with a BS in information systems. Robert was the owner of Tesseract Enterprises LLC, a Colorado limited liability corporation, from 1994 through 2002. He performed database administration and systems analysis in this professional consultancy for seven plus years as an independent contractor, and has been an Oracle master database administrator since 1997. He was with the County Sheriffs of Colorado (CSOC) from 2002 to 2008 and was the director of CSOC information services, the Oracle database administrator, and the AIX Systems and Linux Systems administrator. Robert was also the IT project manager and CSOC federal grants manager for the IT migration project of moving CSOC system from IBM RISC 6000 to Intel hardware, running both Microsoft Server 2003 and Red Hat Linux AS3/4, and from Oracle 8i to Oracle 10g, Standard Edition One. Robert has developed and assisted in creating the curriculum for teaching Colorado Victim Advocates how to use the Victim Offender Information Computer Enhancement (VOICE) System. He has taught various other computing classes over the years as well, including: Oracle Database Administration through Oracle 10g; Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel. Recently Robert has opened “Roxytone LLC“ for business and is available on a 1099 basis. Robert earned his Project Management Professional certification (PMP) in June of 2009.
